Description

Scientists estimate that humans can distinguish anything between 100,000 and 10 million different colors. Even at the lower end of the scale that's amazing, right? And all those millions of different shades and hues can, incredibly, influence how we feel and even how hungry we are, without us even being conscious of it. Some colors can even help get people talking at parties.

Color is a really big deal.

It's awesome, it's fun, and it's very personal.

When you're planning your wedding - or any other party or celebration - it's a great idea to narrow down a few color choices as soon as you can. Why? Deciding on your color theme early can help give your wedding real cohesiveness - it just looks more together. You can use the same colors throughout, on everything from your save-the-dates and invitations to your accessories, ceremony and reception décor, flowers and even post-wedding thank-yous.

We've got a few simple tips to get you started on pinning down your ideal colors and Your Wedding Color Palette is a fun tool to add to the mix.

3 simple steps to perfect party and wedding colors

1. Think about the feel that you want for your wedding or party – maybe bright and sunny, fun, classic and formal, chic, sexy, sophisticated, chilled or down to earth. Clever party planners use color to conjure up all these.

2. Find your favorite colors. Sounds simple, huh? But not everyone has clear favorites. If you're having trouble, look around your home and your wardrobe - what colors are there time and time again? Maybe you prefer different colors depending on the season, so what time of year is your wedding?

3. Make a shortlist. How do those colors make you feel? Do they match the sort of mood you want at your wedding? If it doesn't feel quite right, play around with lots of different shades and hues of the same color and color combinations until you get there. One color can be anything from soft and feminine to big, bold and vivid. For example, yellow runs through the softest pastel lemon to banana, canary yellow and rich orangey marigold.

One last thing... color is very personal. Always trust your own instincts. If you love it, go with it.

How does Your Wedding Color Palette work?

* Lots of people know what their favorite color is, but aren't sure how to put together complementary colors. Even if you love one particular color, you'll often need an accent color to really make it pop. We've put together over 200 4-way color combinations - that's over 800 colors in total - that complement each other perfectly. There's something for everyone.

* It's broken up into Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter wedding sections - if you've already set a date for your wedding you could use these as a starting point.

* Find your favorite colors in the book and tag the color combinations that you love.

* You'll find schemes that are shades of one color; bold schemes with contrasting strong colors; traditional feminine palettes of the softest blush pinks and pale blues and elegant monochromes. You'll also find the hottest wedding color trends for 2016 tagged and highlighted throughout the book.

* Under each individual color you'll see two sets of numbers: Red (R), Green (G), Blue (B) and Cyan (C), Magenta (M), Yellow (Y), Black (K). These are used to break down the color so it can be used on screen or in print. If you see colors you want to use, you'll have the RGB or CMYK so you can get an exact match.
